Christopher Powell is a composer, pianist, and organist based in Huntsville, AL. He studied organ performance at the University of West Florida in Pensacola, FL, with Dr. Lynne A. Lauderdale, and at The Juilliard School in Manhattan with Paul Jacobs. Christopher is currently pursuing a degree online in Composition for Film, TV, and Games from Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA.
Christopher’s compositions have won bronze and silver medals in the Global Music Awards competition, and he holds a diploma with honors in harmony from the European American Musical Alliance’s Nadia Boulanger Institute (EAMA) in Paris, where he studied with David Conte. Christopher’s major works include, Mass for 9, Rest: a requiem, 5 pieces for viola and piano, and String Quartet.
As a religious musician, Christopher has served many congregations and diverse denominations. He is currently the Associate Director of Music at Huntsville First United Methodist Church in Huntsville, AL, and is also the Anthony and Alma Fisher Music Director at Springhill Avenue Temple in Mobile, AL.
Christopher is also a collaborative pianist, having performed with soloists from around the country in recital and as a rehearsal pianist for opera. As a collaborator for opera, Christopher has participated in, Le Nozze di Figaro, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Roméo et Juliette, Così fan tutte, La Traviata, La Boheme, La Rhondine, Suor Angelica, Il Tabarro, Iolanthe, and The Consul. He has also prepared Carmina Burana, Symphony No. 9 by Beethoven, Mozart’s Requiem, Saint-Saëns’ Requiem, and Mahler’s Resurrection Symphony.
